I just want to ask the clever colour people out there is it possible to get blue from two chocolate parent cats.  My council has asked me to DNA test my stud cat Merchucchio to get correct colour.  I recently tried to register Henny Penny (Blue/cream torti & White) but they say it is impossible to get blue from Merc - Chocolate Spotted Tabby & White and Coco Chanel - Chocolate/cream torti mink.  They suspect Merchucchio is a black/silver & White.  He certainly looks chocolate to me but I know when there is silver in there it can play havoc with colours.  Do chocolates not carry blue? Coco Chanel's mother is a blue torti. Anyway, I will DNA test Merchucchio and see what I get.

Hi Karolyn, Is it possible Coco Chanel is Seal tortie mink?
I quess it is possible. Her face and ears are quite dark. I think more possible than Merchucchio not being a chocolate. She is definitely alot darker at her points than the darker parts of Merc. Maybe that is where it's gone wrong.

Just looking at the pedigree... Merc's parents are chocolate point and choc spotted / white so he could not be black tabby, could he? I get very confused with the chocolate/brown thing. Especially when it comes to tabbies.
And it makes it harder when pedigrees have both brown tabby and choc tabby listed. Because isn't brown tabby actually black tabby? I don't know and I have probably confused you more.
LOL
Yes, very confusing. But I think your right it might be Ms Chanel that needs the DNA - aaagh!!!
Hi Karolyn
I am no expert, but i believe many 'chocolate' cats are misregistered and are really seal.
Therefore if there is dilute genes in there you would certainly get blue.
especially if the girl is also seal tortie as opposed to choc.
So when you get the dna back i suspect it will be neg for choc.

I absolutely agree with that Peta.

Yes, I agree. I think Coco Chanel must be a seal torti mink and not chocolate torti mink. Thanks alot for that it makes alot of sense.
Although just to confuse you more I do think that Hazel ( Coco Chanel's daughter) is a chocolate tortie mink/white, not seal. Although I have not had her Dna tested she is too pale to be a seal.
gee, I wonder if Coco is darker than Hazel. It's tough as she is sort of speckled. I will look at Hazel again and compare

Can somebody please point me to his pedigree so I can see if I can help? Yes, chocolate cats can definitely carry blue. But from 2 choc cats you can get only choc and lilac offspring. Maybe Merc's chocolatepoint parent is really sealpoint? And yes, Brown Tabby is genetically Black Tabby. Colour on Aussie pedigrees are generally a nightmare because so many registries there don't register on genotype, and so many breeders don't know their genetics and so register incorrectly.

Hi Karolyn!
Chocolate always in a fashion! I remember on the Himalayan - all wished to see not a seal points but a chocolate points.
Sometimes it is necessary to trust not only DNA -kittens give more a truthful correct information!

Yes, I think I have a wrong registration in Coco Chanel No.5. She has to be seal as I feel my Stud boy 'Merchucchio' is definitely chocolate and his sire 'Blue eyes' was definitely a choc point and his mother a choc tabby and white. I appreciate all your help now I know one of my cats has been registered in the wrong colour to produce a blue torti girl.
